Victimization - Anxiety and Neurosis

By Claudia Luna 🌹

Life call us to self sufficiency, to independence and freedom.

Anyone who decides to ignore this call because of childhood traumas, laziness or weakness is threatened with neurosis.

Consciousness is our ticket to adulthood.

Unconsciousness keep us trapped into the circles of painful memories, victimization and delaying to solve, to overcome, to move forward, to let go.

We refuse to grow every time the process take us out of the comfort zone and force us to face some pain, some fears.

Which provides a valid reason for running away from life and staying forever in the unhealthy kingdom of infancy.

Running in circles, repeating the same mistakes over and over, feeding insanity with fragile excuses.

Distracted from life. Jumping constantly from past to future ignoring the only moment when life happens ... Now !

All is neurosis.

Carl Jung wrote: “neurosis is always a substitute for legitimate suffering.”

We refuse to suffer therefore we never heal.

The word “suffer” comes from a Latin word meaning to bear, to carry, or to endure. When we suffer our fate rather than avoiding it, we become actors in our own movie drama.

Rilke refers to suffering as a “harsh hand that kneads us,” changing us and leaving us “proud and strengthened,” even in defeat. When, instead of accepting pain, as a teacher, and temporary surrender to suffering, as a lesson, we externalize and medicalize our pain, we run the risk of becoming its immobilized victim.

Society, in order to “protect us” has enabled us to avoid those things that make us uncomfortable.

More than ever, people has access to different kind of help, groups, counselors, therapies, personal coaches, self help books, videos, articles, spiritual gurus, all enable someone who “needs to suffer in order to grow”, to seek out safe spaces when feeling overwhelmed

We are adrift on our life’s turbulent waters, without blame, but also without responsibility.

The culture of victimhood has fosters a sense of helplessness, which sometimes looks convenient, but in turn can lead to increased anxiety.

Whoever confronts, in their daily basis, uncertainty, difficulties and fear, no matter how little the effort, are making an heroic jump toward health, in the psychological sense.

James Hollis beautifully said: “We each have an appointment with ourselves, though most of us never show up for it,”

We must face our shadows, our past, our story. We need to feel uncomfortable, unsafe, alone, not matter how overwhelming it feels, in order to grow, to learn, to evolve.

We humans, are very resilient.

This generation is the most spoiled one.

We have never lived such a comfortable life

We don’t need to hunt for our food, we open our kitchen’s faucet and we have running water, we have an amazing amount of resources at our disposal.

The world need heroes. The world need extraordinary people who are willing to walk the extra mile. And we are all extraordinaries, we just forgot it, or stop believing it.

Nature loves the brave. The universe favors the courageous and a great amount of help is ready to be manifested as soon as we commit

We need to show up, to deal with whatever must be faced in the midst of chaos, doubt, fear and insecurity is the hero task.

To create a world in which people are encouraged to confront their fears, to manage their emotions, to cope with stress and anxiety face difficulties and find creative solutions for problems, matters not just for the mental health of individuals, but also for our society’s well-being.

In a world with constant changes and challenges, the times yet to come will desperately need those individuals.

People willing to rise from their confortable beds and cozy homes, walk ahead firmly, setting aside weakness and self pity, no matter how grim the odds, and claim control of their destinies, to transform society into a better place.

A new world is gestating, and we can’t look to the other side. The funny part is that as soon as we face fear, the monsters disappear and we finally understand that the obstacle was the way.

We finally understand that every challenge, every rock on the way, every detour, was a teacher for us to enlighten, to wake up, to raise, to a deeper, joyful and meaningful life

I’ll meet you there
